Map: Cirundi 2.0 by DasSovietCanuck Map: Cirundi 2.0 by DasSovietCanuck
BEHOLD! After nearly a year, it's finished!

Wow, that was more work than expected. Mind you, I've gone through three computers, three moves, a change in jobs, started teaching, started a D&D session, etc. between the time I started this project and now, so it's been more "lack of time" instead of "tonne of work." Also "Fail to get programs to do what I want," but that's a given.

Regardless, here is the new, updated, refined, enhanced map of Cirundi, homeworld of the kithkin (see dassovietcanuck.deviantart.com… ), complete with geographically correct rivers, tectonically accurate mountains, and mostly (kinda sorta) bang-on climatological conditions

Because I'm a sucker for accuracy, or a masochist. Take your pick.

I've also included a few of the cities included as references, because... human geography affects natural geography. Though in this case it's sythen geography... you know what? Shaddup.

Not entirely sold on the colours, but tried to make something like you'd find on the wall of a classroom. Written in English. With Latin letters. Because I suck at this.

Regardless, this should be the last of my map/geography tinkering for now, so I can get onto geopolitics, linguists, and all that fun stuff. Because I've got 12 language families on this planet, and nobody's really seen them yet! Thus, onto nations and clans and wars and explanations as to how these geographical names came about! Huzzah!

This map was based on Arsheesh of the Cartographer's Guild's mapping tutorial entitled Eriond, which can be found here: www.cartographersguild.com/tut…

And as always, Cirundi, the kithkin, and related materials belong to yours truely, :icondassovietcanuck:, but if you want to use the world, concepts, and ideas presented here, feel free to ask! Other than that, I will try to answer all questions, comments, and concerns in a most timely manner here!

This is one of the most realistic fantasy maps I have seen. As a geologist I see a sound foundation in plate tectonics as well as planetary climatology. It might sound contradictory to make such a statement but I think that is not the case.
I hope to manage the time to look deeper into your work.
Thank you for sharing.

Nice work!!! :D :D :D

But, can you tell me how did you make the snow???????????? I've been working on my map for a while, actually almost finished with it, except that I'm stuck when it comes to the snow!!! XD

This is what I'm working on, just need to figure out the snow part and I will be able to say that it's - finished!!! LOL

Thanks for any help you can give!

I made a new layer, and gave it the appropriate winter/tundra colouration (applied a gradient map to the layer), applied a full transparency layer mask to that layer, and then painted in the layer mask where I wanted the tundra to show up. I'd never used layer masks before this, but I have to say, they make everything so much easier.

I followed this tutorial here from the Cartography Guild: www.cartographersguild.com/tut…

Hope this helps!

"Because I'm a sucker for accuracy, or a masochist."

That feeling when you really wish you were done with this one map already; but ALL THESE LITTLE THINGS THAT NEED FIXING THAT NOBODY WILL ACTUALLY NOTICE EXCEPT YOU UNGH

EXACTLY! MEIN GOTT, the rivers! I needed the rivers to be just right! And, I'm not going to lie, I actually spent 15 minutes drawing highways in light grey, 10% transparency, 'cause, you know, stuff. Then, when I realized I was only halfway through Dreqae, I decided to call it quits. :P

Wait; I don't even notice the highways in the slightest, and I spent 10 minutes looking at this map this morning.

I turned off the layer in the final picture... might show them when I get the cities done, though at the moment I'm looking at that and asking "why did I decide there would be 256 clans again?" I haven't even picked out regions for the Qal'il and Lae'il clans, only general "ethic group areas"

That's more than there are on my world map; with 223 ethnicities. It's not that hard, honestly, if you have some time at hand.

Well, I've only got 19 macro-ethnicities (Oronil, Mediq, Dragari, I-Dragari, Velaqe, Reiseq, Avona, Vaiyoo, Ryushan, Tuugan, Ziiri, Paashad, Yulim, Abaaya, Kopic, Dragoqali, Murati, Saamati, and Nuraati), but I'm cheating (four races, two language families ('il and Naar), one government... :p

That's not so bad. I only have one species on my main world and there is only one language column, with three families.
